Part Two.
This is a clip made by a friend who went on the trip with me, so credit goes to him for making it, but as far as I know it's not on the internet so I thought I would put it up.
The trip was organised through Spice UK and I went with my dad in August 2007 (I was 18). I want to thank everyone who was involved in the most memorable, gruelling and fulfilling experience of my life!
We flew to Nairobi, Kenya and took a domestic flight to Kilimanjaro Airport, and a coach to our accommodation. In the morning there was a jeep ride to the Gate. The trek to Kibo Hut (last checkpoint prior to final ascent) took around a 5 days. We left at midnight for the final ascent and 6 out of the 10 in the group managed to reach the summit by 8am.
Those who dropped out were suffering from severe altitude sickness and fatigue. Those who made it were crazy to endure it for as long as they did.
It took around 3 more days to reach the Gate at the other end of the trial, through rainforest.
We then enjoyed a couple of relaxing days in Zanzibar, where we swam with dolphins and snorkelled and enjoyed food which wasn't rice for a change!
Brilliant holiday... and a very humbling experience.
